CAPE TOWN - Police have arrested several people for public violence during this morning's service delivery protest in Grassy Park.

About 200 people gathered on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Old Strandfontein Road.

Police spokesperson November Philander could not confirm the number of arrests.

The road has now been reopened after being closed for the bulk of Thursday morning.

"We believe five robots were damaged during the strike and that residents were up at 5am on Thursday morning, ready to protest. Community members burnt tyres and blockaded specific roads leading to Grassy Park and the Strandfonetin area."

Philander said the fire brigade made its way to the scene.
