'Public Protector's office ensures justice'
Public Protector Thuli Madonsela feels her recommendations should be taken seriously.
JOHANNESBURG - Public Protector Thuli Madonsela said on Thursday, people have to listen to her recommendations, despite the fact that her office is not a court of law.
She said her office has the duty to ensure justice and public accountability.
She spoke at the New Age Business Breakfast in Midrand.
"We believe that there is no choice, people have to listen and generally the courts agree with us.
"In other countries matters have been taken to court and it has been the understanding that the Public Protector is not a court, but an informal non-political and non-judicial office that must be used to exact accountability."
The Public Protector has investigated several high profile cases including the police lease scandal and the communications tender in the Western Cape.
