Red Cross treats more burn victims
The Red Cross Children's Hospital says it had to treat more burn victims in 2012.
CAPE TOWN - The Red Cross Children's Hospital on Wednesday said it had to treat more burn victims in 2012.
Since June, 180 children were admitted to the hospital's burns unit.
Three of them were wounded severely in shack fires.
The unit's Dr Roux Martinez said, "It's been very cold and we've had several cases of paraffin stoves and heaters exploding."
Several people have lost their homes throughout the province due to shack fires.
Many shack dwellers have also been forced to flee their homes following heavy rains.
