Gauteng cancer patients denied treatment
The national Department of Health has stepped in to help Gauteng cancer patients.
JOHANNESBURG - The Department of Health has stepped in to help Gauteng cancer patients who were denied treatment at state hospitals.
Advocacy group Campaigning 4 Cancer claims at least 100 patients were not receiving regular treatment.
Gauteng hospitals have come under the spotlight for equipment failure, non-payment to service providers, security concerns and medication shortages.
Health Department spokesperson Fidel Hadebe said the situation is unacceptable.
"We can't have a situation where any patient does not get their treatment. We are interacting with senior officials."
