'Troubled councils not taking action'
Auditor-General Terence Nombembe said municipalities do not have good financial skills.
JOHANNESBURG - Auditor-General Terence Nombembe said local councils, who were told of problems with their finances, do not appear to be taking proper action.
On Monday, he released a consolidated report combining the outcomes of audits conducted on municipalities.
Nombembe said only 13 councils had clean audits in the last financial year.
His major problem was that many municipalities did not act on his recommendations.
"We constantly find a situation where you go and ask about action taken on what was agreed upon, and virtually nothing has happened."
Nombembe identified a lack of financial skills as a major contributor to the problem.
