16 killed in E.Cape bus crash
Sixteen people were killed on Saturday when two buses collided on the R61 in the Eastern Cape.
CAPE TOWN - Some 16 people, including schoolchildren, were killed on Saturday when two buses collided on the R61 Highway between Cradock and Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape.
Emergency officials said it was unclear what caused the crash.
Four people were seriously injured and another 27 suffered slight injuries.
Learners on one of the passenger buses were on their way to a school sports trip.
Spokesperson for road safety organisation Arrive Alive in the Eastern Cape Tshepo Machea said paramedics found 16 people dead upon arrival.
He said it was possible more people were injured, but that it could only be confirmed at a later stage.
Injured persons were transported to local hospitals.
