Social grant documents dumped in JHB
Police are trying to determine the legitimacy of social grant files dumped in a veld.
JOHANNESBURG - Police on Friday discovered social grant documents and police caps dumped in a veld in downtown Johannesburg.
It is understood the files belonged to the South African Social Security Agency.
Officials believes the documents could be from its Northern Cape office, but it could not yet determine if the grants had been paid out.
Police discovered over 500 files in the veld.
Some 280 caps, still wrapped in police bags, were scattered across the veld next to the documents.
The security agency will now work with police to determine the legitimacy and origin of the files and caps.
Police suspect the goods originated from a hijacked delivery van.
