Murder charges withdrawn in Delmas case
The three suspects will only face theft charges in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court.
JOHANNESBURG - Murder charges against three men accused of killing a five-month-old baby and his minder were withdrawn in the Delmas Magistrate's Court, Mpumalanga police confirmed on Wednesday.
The suspects will now only face charges of theft.
In May, Magrietha de Goede (66) and baby Wiehan Botes were found strangled at a daycare centre in the area.
Fernandos Maritse, Enock Mbele and Lazarus Mabhena appeared in court on Tuesday where the charges were withdrawn.
They were released on R1,000 bail each.
The court found that there was not enough evidence to directly link them to the killings.
Police spokesperson Leonard Hlathi said they are still searching for de Goede's gardener, Themba Mahlangu.
"We are requesting members of the public to assist us."
