QUNU - Visitors, local celebrities and journalists have gathered on the road leading to Nelson Mandela's home waiting patiently for a glimpse of the former statesman.

Former United States (US) president Bill Clinton and his daughter, Chelsea, are currently visiting Madiba ahead of his 94th birthday on Wednesday.

Clinton arrived at the Mandela homestead after he donated books to a local primary school.

He told villagers that both he and Madiba remain committed to making a difference to the lives of many around the world.

Mandela's former secretary Zelda la Grange also arrived to wish him well.

"I spent 18 years with him, he's very special. He is like a family member to me."

La Grange and other bikers are going around the country in a bid to help the less fortunate for Mandela Day.

Madiba's grandson, Mandla, was spotted leaving the house a short while ago.
