CAPE TOWN - The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) on Monday said it will be investigating complaints levelled against Khayelitsha police.

IPID authorities met with concerned residents on Monday to discuss a recent spate of mob justice incidents in the area.

Inadequate policing has been cited as the cause of almost a dozen mob killings in the township over the past few months.

IPID's Francois Beukman said, "We received about seven complaints and most of them were related to matters of assault, service delivery and allegations of corruption. We will look at those, evaluate it and then make a decision."

He said they also dropped in at one of the local police stations.

"We conveyed the concerns of the community, conducted a cell inspection and discussed protocol with communities police liaison."
