JOHANNESBURG - Traffic authorities on Monday said all major routes were once again open to traffic.

This as weather conditions improve in the Free State, Eastern and Western Cape.

Some of the country's highways were closed off after heavy rain and snowfall at the weekend.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation's Ashraf Ismail said, "Traffic officials and disaster management are on high alert, monitoring traffic.

"We've been told that the weather remains very cold with heavy rains and poor visibility in the Western Cape, Free State, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape."
