JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Health MEC Ntombi Mekgwe will now head up the Local Housing Department following the resignation Humphrey Mmemezi.

Gauteng Premier Nomvula Mokonyane made the announced on Monday.

Hope Papo was sworn in as the new Health MEC.

Mokonyane said Mmemezi was brilliant at his job, but had made mistakes.

Last week, he stepped down from his post following a report that he used

the departmental credit card to buy a R10,000 painting from McDonald's.

Mekgwe's departure could signal a change for the troubled health department.

Provincial facilities have been in the spotlight in recent months as a result of equipment shortages, a lack of staff, security concerns and payment problems.

MEC Qedani Mahlangu will take over the Infrastructure Development portfolio, while Kholisile Nkosiphendule will take over the Economic Development portfolio.
