CAPE TOWN - The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is assisting residents at the Mandela Park Informal Settlement in Hout Bay with aid, following a fatal fire that left at least 200 people displaced.

The blaze, which started in the early hours of Sunday, destroyed about 50 shacks.

One man burnt to death in the wide-spread fire.

The agency visited the area to evaluate damage caused by the fire on Sunday afternoon, its CEO Virginia Peterson said.

Peterson said they would reflect on more ways to assist the 200 people left homeless after their visit.
