Hundreds homeless after shack fire
One person died and 200 others displaced after a fire at the Mandela Park informal settlement.
CAPE TOWN - One person has died and over 200 people were displaced following a fire at the Mandela Park informal settlement in Hout Bay.
The blaze, which started in the early hours of Sunday morning, destroyed about 50 shacks.
Disaster Management's Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said officials are on the scene assisting affected residents.
"Teams were dispatched this morning to assess the situation and to assist approximately 200 people left homeless. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this stage."
