Flooding forces SC residents out of their homes
The Eden District Municipality said flooding resulted in the evacuation of about 100 people on Saturday.
CAPE TOWN - The Eden District Municipality in the Southern Cape said flooding resulted in the evacuation of about 100 people living in informal settlements in that area.
The Southern Cape is experiencing heavy downpours and snowfall.
Officials said the Swartberg Pass between Oudsthoorn and Prince Albert remains closed to traffic as a result.
Provincial government supplied evacuated persons with food and alternative accommodation in community halls, said spokesperson for Southern Cape Disaster Risk Management Services Gerard Otto.
Otto said disaster officials were also assisting some Oudtshoorn residents with blankets and food parcels following extreme weather in that area.
