CAPE TOWN - There are calls for the suspension of another South African diplomat amid bribery allegations in the awarding of MTN's operating license in Iran.

Allegations have been levelled against South Africa's ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Abdul Minty.

It is claimed he was swayed to abstain on a crucial vote on Iran.

Earlier this week, the International Relations Department suspended South Africa's former ambassador to Iran, Yusuf Saloojee, pending the outcome of an investigation.

The Democratic Alliance's David Maynier concedes there is no proof of wrongdoing, but says a probe is justified.

"These allegations are extremely serious and must be investigated as a matter of urgently."
