Igesund wants friendly match
Bafana coach Gordon Igesund wants to go into the Brazil game with a tested squad.
JOHANNESBURG - Newly appointed Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund on Wednesday asked the South African Football Association (Safa) to squeeze in a friendly match for his team ahead of their game against Brazil.
Bafana are scheduled to face Brazil in São Paulo on September 7, but Igesund wants to go into that game with a tested squad.
In his contract, he has been mandated to at least reach the semi-finals of the 2013 Afcon tournament and also qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Igesund said he needs to prepare for the future.
"I'll be meeting with the technical team to discuss the way forward. Obviously, we've got a big game coming up against Brazil. I am going to be discussing some more details as far as getting maybe one friendly before we go Brazil."
Igesund said while he waits for Safa to make a decision, he will hit the ground running with his new technical team.
"I've got a lot to do and I want to visit all the PSL coaches. I also want to meet certain players."
Meanwhile, Thomas Madigage has been appointed as Igesund's assistant.
Safa technical director Serame Letsoaka will serve as the second assistant coach.
