Level crossing violaters to be prosecuted
CT Transport Dept. will be prosecuting motorists who fail to obey traffic laws at level crossings.
CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Transport Department said there are 179 cases pending for level crossing violations in its pilot project.
The project was launched at the White Road level crossing in Retreat on 7 June, and is aimed at changing the behaviour of motorists.
Motorists caught on camera violating traffic signals at level crossings will be prosecuted.
Head of the transport ministry in the province, Hector Elliot told Cape Talk's Kieno Kammies on Tuesday, that they had reasonable success during their first month of implementation.
He said if motorists do not stop at a level crossing while the traffic light is red, they will receive a R500 fine
