Mbalula evades Pistorius discussion
Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula has evaded a discussion about Oscar Pistorius qualifying for the Olympics.
CAPE TOWN - Minister of Sports and Recreation Fikile Mbalula on Monday evaded a discussion about Oscar Pistorius qualifying for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The double amputee athlete failed to qualify in the individual 400 metres sprint, but the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (Sascoc) announced last week that he would be included in the 4X400-metre relay squad.
Speaking on 567 Cape Talk, Mbalula chose his words carefully when he spoke about Pistorius' inclusion in the squad participating at the Summer Games.
"I don't want to speak about that because Oscar is a very courageous man. It's a sensitive issue. It's not really about the athlete; it is a political decision that has been taken."
Mbalula added that the debate was worth engaging in on another level.
