The Hawks on Sunday arrested a policeman in Tembisa, Johannesburg, for allegedly defeating the ends of justice.

JOHANNESBURG - The Hawks on Sunday arrested a policeman in Tembisa on the East Rand, for allegedly defeating the ends of justice.

Police were in pursuit of a suspect accused of a being involved in a cash-in-transit heist when the policeman apparently helped him evade arrest.

The man whom police were initially chasing allegedly held up a cash van with three others in Polokwane, before they fledwith an undisclosed amount of money.

Police spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi said police would now investigate whether the policeman, who works at the O.R. Tambo International Airport, was involved in the May robbery.
