CAPE TOWN - Mamelodi Sundowns on Thursday confirmed to Eyewitness News Sport they were in negotiations with Eleazar Rodgers.

The Santos striker is hot property as he was the second highest scorer in the Premiership last season.

He scored 13 goals during the 2011 Premiers Soccer League (PSL).

Rodgers is looking to find a new club after the People's Team were relegated to the National First Division over the weekend.

Sundowns spokesperson Kabelo Mosito said Rodgers was a target.

"Our scouts are currently on the lookout. Rodgers is one of the good players and we are interested in him. However, nothing has been formalised yet. We are still negotiating."

Mosito said there is no time frame on when a deal could be completed.

"We hope that it happens as soon as possible."

Champions Orlando Pirates are reportedly also interested in Rodgers.
