Pistorius included in SA Olympic relay team
Oscar Pistorius will compete in the Olympics as part of SA’s relay team.
JOHANNESBURG - Oscar Pistorius will officially compete at the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games, the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) revealed on Wednesday.
Pistorius will be included in the country's 4x400m relay team.
The double amputee failed to secure the qualifying time of 45.3 seconds abroad.
This prompted many to think 'the blade runner' would miss his chance to compete in both the able-bodied and disabled events.
SASCOC's CEO Tubby Reddy, "Yesterday we got confirmation from the IAAF that our 4x4 relay team is ranked number 2 in the world. Normally, the top 16 ranked countries can take part in the relay heats."
Sascoc unveiled a further 13 athletes that will represent South Africa at the Games, taking Team South Africa's total to 125 athletes.
