Artisans boost the economy - Nzimande
Minister Blade Nzimande says the country must be ambassadors for vocational training.
JOHANNESBURG - Moulding qualified artisans is vital in South Africa's fight against poverty and unemployment, Higher Education and Training Minister Blade Nzimande said on Wednesday.
Nzimande was speaking at a two-day National Artisan Conference in Midrand, north of Johannesburg.
He said all South Africans must become ambassadors for vocational training.
The minister said the purpose of the conference is to set up a formal platform to review the state of development in the sector annually.
He urged the country to be patriotic by supporting government's commitment in producing artisans who will boost the economy.
Nzimande said many strategic infrastructure projects in the country require a significant number of qualified and competent artisans.
The conference ends on Thursday.
