Etzebeth to miss Cheetahs game
Stormers lock Eben Etzebeth will not be fit for Saturday’s match against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.
CAPE TOWN - Stormers lock Eben Etzebeth will not be fit for Saturday's match against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.
The lock has not fully recovered from an ankle injury sustained while on Springbok duty in June.
Coach Allister Coetzee says the team will not risk him.
"Eben has been reassessed; we are very happy with the progress. But it would be unwise to force him to play this weekend."
Coetzee is also sweating as several players have already come down with the flu.
The latest casualty is centre Juan de Jongh.
Bryan Habana and Joe Pietersen were withdrawn from the match-day squad before last weekend's encounter with the Lions because they were also struck down by the flu virus.
Coetzee says they are giving de Jongh until Wednesday before deciding on his availability this weekend.
"I think it's something that we've got to deal with. It's always good to know that early in the week so players can at least spend a couple of days in bed and make sure they rid themselves off the flu virus."
The Stormers are currently second on the Super Rugby log while the Cheetahs are tenth.
Kickoff is at 3pm.
