CAPE TOWN - A Khayelitsha community leader on Monday said people displaced by a fire felt let down by the city.

At least 15 shacks were gutted leaving 60 people homeless on Sunday night.

Branch leader for the South African National Civic Organisation Bathandwa Sipakisi said the fire department took too long to arrive on the scene.

"The department was reluctant in terms of responding until one of the community members drove his car to fetch those guys."

Authorities urged residents to be careful when dealing with fire.
