Mmemezi denies mismanagement of funds
MEC Humprey Mmemezi has denied any knowledge of reported misuse of money in his department.
JOHANNESBURG - Housing and Local Government MEC Humphrey Mmemezi on Sunday denied any knowledge of reported misuse of money in his department.
Mmemezi allegedly spent more than R200 million from the department's human settlements fund.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) claims Mmemezi spent R300,000 on security for his Krugersdorp home and R8 million on installing a CCTV camera system at his office.
But Mmemezi said he does not handle administrative issues.
"Expenditure is an administrative question. Those that are spending rumours are being malicious."
Earlier in 2012, the MEC was accused of using his official credit card to buy a R10,000 artwork when it is against the rules of the provincial legislature.
Mmemezi defended the purchase and said there were people using the media to discredit him. The MEC said the painting was for his office and not for his personal gratification.
