JOHANNESBURG - Former Higher Education director general Mary Metcalf on Sunday said she would meet with Section 27 and the Basic Education Department on Monday to discuss her role in the delivery of textbooks in Limpopo

Metcalf has been appointed by the ministry to assist with the verification of the delivery of textbooks.

The department delivered books under immense pressure after missing two deadlines in May.

Metcalf said after meeting with all stakeholders she would then have a clearer indication of her role.

"I'm awaiting a letter of appointment and the terms reference from the department. I will be meeting the DG on Monday. This is an appointment that has been agreed between the Basic Education Department and Section 27."

Section 27 took the department to court in a bid to force the department to deliver books.

The department claims it has delivered 99 percent of the books.

Meanwhile, there have been calls from opposition parties and civil society groups for Basic Education Department Minister Angie Motshekga to step down following the saga.

However, Motshekga insists she will not resign.

In June, President Jacob Zuma reshuffled his department but Motshekga survived the axe.
