Bafana coach to be announced
Safa will on Saturday announce the new Bafana Bafana coach.
JOHANNESBURG - The South African Football Association (Safa) will on Saturday announce the new Bafana Bafana coach.
Gordon Igesund and Steve Komphela are the final two candidates who are currently making their final presentations to the executive committee ahead of the announcement later on Saturday afternoon.
Gavin Hunt, Neil Tovey and Shakes Mashaba were also shortlisted for the top job, but failed to make it through the first round of interviews.
It was business as usual for Igesund this week as he resumed training with Premier Soccer League (PSL) runners up Moroka Swallows in preparation for the 2012/13 season.
Igesund's coaching record is unmatched in South Africa having won a record four PSL titles with four different teams.
Bafana interim coach Komphela on the other hand may not have had as much coaching experience as Igesund.
But the current Free State Stars coach has represented South Africa at the highest level having earned 24 caps for Bafana as a player.
He is well aware of the pressure that is placed on the team by the South African soccer public.
The announcement is expected at around 4pm.
