Four people die in W.Cape shack fire
Cross Roads residents say they are not certain of the cause of Friday morning's deadly fire.
CAPE TOWN - Residents in Cross Roads near Nyanga say they are not certain of the cause of a deadly fire in which four people, including two children, died.
The victims were two young mothers and their small children.
Residents say they saw the fire.
The women's neighbour Nomvuyiso Mbothomi says she last saw the two mothers and their two children on Thursday night.
She says at the time they were cooking when she left them.
Mbothomi says she cannot say for certain their electric stove was linked to the cause of blaze.
It is understood one of the women and her child had been visiting from Khayelitsha.
In a similar tragedy, three children, aged between three and 13 years, died in their home outside Mossel Bay on Thursday.
They suffocated after their mother used coal to make a fire to keep them warm during the night.
At least 25 people have died in shack and house fires in the Western Cape and Gauteng since the start of winter.
