Delmas baby killers in court next week

JOHANNESBURG - Three men accused of killing a five-month-old baby and his day mother in Delmas, Mpumalanga were sent back into police custody on Wednesday.

The Delmas Magistrate's Court postponed their bail application.

Margrietha de Goede (66) and baby Wiehan Botes were found strangled in May.

The police's Leonard Hlathi said the three men accused of the murders will be back in court next Tuesday.

"The bail application could not proceed today because the suspect's legal representation was not ready to proceed."

The mother of the baby had phoned the nanny's house, and when no one answered, she went to investigate.

She arrived and found the house locked, but a baby crying inside the house.

"She broke a window to get into the house," said Hlathi.

The nanny's body was found under a carpet in an outside room and the baby's body was found under a bed in the main house.

"Both appeared to have been strangled," said Hlathi.

The motive for the killings remains unknown.
