ANCYL to discuss its autonomy
The ANCYL will use the ANC Policy Conference to raise the issue of its autonomy.
JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) Deputy President Ronald Lamola said on Wednesday members will use the African National Congress' (ANC) policy conference to once again raise the issue of the league's autonomy.
The league has been at loggerheads with the mother body over Julius Malema's expulsion.
It was also pushing for nationalisation and the expropriation of land without compensation.
Lamola believes he will be able to raise the issue of autonomy.
"We are going to raise the autonomy of the league and defend the autonomy of the structure," said Lamola.
He credited the league for putting radical economic changes on the ANC's agenda.
"They are now debating what the youth league has put on the table that we need to see an accelerated rate of economic freedom in South Africa."
On Tuesday, President Jacob Zuma told delegates that there needs to be a drastic shift towards economic transformation to deal with unemployment, poverty and inequality.
