Cape Judge President's son sorry about fraud
The son of Cape Judge President John Hlophe has to pay R10,000 or spend six months in jail.
CAPE TOWN - The son of Western Cape Judge President John Hlophe has to pay a R10,000 fine, or spend six months behind bars, for fraud.
Thuthuka Hlophe appeared in a Bellville court on Monday.
He pleaded guilty to three charges of fraud and violating the Identification Act, as part of a plea agreement with the State.
Dressed smartly Thuthuka Hlophe stood quietly in the dock as the State prosecutor read out his plea and sentencing agreement.
Hlophe expressed remorse and claimed he had learnt a lesson.
He was arrested in 2009 for using fake cheques and false identity documents to open bank accounts.
On Monday, Hlophe pleaded guilty to fraud.
He also received a six month prison sentence ,which was suspended for three years, for violating the Identification Act.
