Another arrest in Delmas baby murder case

Police said they arrested a third man in the murder case of a Delmas baby and his nanny.

JOHANNESBURG - Mpumalanga police on Friday confirmed they had arrested a third man accused of killing a five-month-old baby and his nanny in Delmas.

Police said the man who was arrested in Springs, East of Johannesburg on Thursday will appear in court on Friday.

Two more suspects were arrested in May, after 66-year-old Margrietha de Goede and baby Wiehan were found strangled .

The police's Leonard Hlathi said, "We found a 24-year-old man with a cell phone that is believed to have belonged to the nanny and we charged him with murder."

The mother of the baby had phoned the nanny's house, and when no one answered, she went to investigate.

She arrived and found the house locked, but a baby crying inside the house.

"She broke a window to get into the house, said Hlathi.

The nanny's body was found under a carpet in an outside room and the baby's body was found under a bed in the main house.

"Both appeared to have been strangled," said Hlathi.

The motive for the killings remain unknown.
