CAPE TOWN - Legal action brought against the MyCiti bus service by Golden Arrow is expected to prolong vehicle operating contracts.

Golden arrow bus service has taken the city's bus service to court because of its unhappiness with stipulations listed in its proposed 12 year contract.

MyCiti has employed the Golden Arrow bus drivers to operate its buses on an interim basis, but now wants to extend the contract.

Transport Mayco member Brett Herron has blamed Golden Arrow for the delays.

"The impact maybe that we will delay the finalisation of the long term contracts for the permanent role out of the MyCiti service, phase one."

He said taking the matter to court was a premature move.

"The negotiating for the long term contracts have not been concluded yet - which is why we're disappointed that Golden Arrow has jumped the gun and applied to court."
