Moyo gets 17 years
A serial escapee faces 17 years in jail even before being convicted for crimes he was first arrested for.
PRETORIA - Serial escapee Bongani Moyo will spend the next 17 years behind bars after a Pretoria magistrate refused to allow his latest sentence to run concurrently with previous convictions.
Moyo was on Tuesday found guilty of escaping from the Pretoria Magistrate's Court and sentenced to three years imprisonment for the crime.
He faces 17 years in jail and that is without being convicted for the crimes he was initially arrested for.
Moyo walked out of the Pretoria Magistrate's Court in August last year and before that he escaped from a Johannesburg police station - he received 14 years for that crime.
Moyo and two co-accused will soon go on trial for trying to escape from the Pretoria Central Prison earlier this year.
The Zimbabwean and three others are yet to go on trial for armed robbery and possession of firearms.
