WC motorists pay the price
Western Cape traffic officials issued almost R250,000 worth of spot fines, over the past weekend.
CAPE TOWN - Western Cape traffic officials collected almost R250,000 worth of spot fines, over the past weekend.
Authorities dished out fines for an array of offences, including motorists driving without valid licences and talking on cell phones while driving.
These fines usually issued over a weekend totals on average R150,000.
Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said this weekend's takings were exceptionally high.
"Normally its R150,000 to R160,000 fines that are issued over weekends. This weekend it was different. It was really a high amount of fines we issued."
Africa said many motorists were also nabbed for speeding.
