Malema comments are false - ANC
The ANC has dismissed Julius Malema’s claims that President Jacob Zuma is an angry tribalist.
JOHANNESBURG - The ANC dismissed claims made by expelled ANC Youth League leader Julius Malema this week, that President Jacob Zuma is a tribalist and a dictator.
The ruling party on Saturday said the comments were baseless and false.
Malema addressed a crowd on Friday, in Thohoyandou, Limpopo.
He told the crowd Zuma, who is meant to unite the ANC, is an angry tribalistic man dividing the party.
Party spokesperson Keith Khoza said the ANC does not know what informed the former league leader's opinion.
"It's difficult to say what informs his thinking on these issues. It has been evident that he disagrees with the president (on certain issues), but that does not make what he says true."
On Tuesday, the ANC's National Executive Committee (NEC) decided to not review Malema's expulsion from the party.
The party's National Disciplinary Committee decided to expel him in April, after he made comments that Zuma had turned the ANC into an unbearable dictatorship.
He then approached the party's National Disciplinary Committee of Appeals to overturn the decision, but the NDCA upheld the decision.
