Public urged to donate blood
Thursday marks World Blood Donor Day and people have been urged to give blood.
CAPE TOWN - Thursday marks World Blood Donor Day and people have been urged to roll up their sleeves.
The Western Province Blood Transfusion Service said fewer people donate blood during winter.
Spokesperson Marelise Mouton said the province needs 800 units a day to function optimally, but that is not always possible.
She said cold and wet weather affects donor numbers.
"We have times when it goes well and times when we struggle to get donations. Winter months are really difficult for us."
