Alleged rapist remains behind bars
A police reservist who allegedly raped a homeless man will remain behind bars.
CAPE TOWN - A Bellville police reservist who allegedly raped a homeless man will remain behind bars until later next week.
The reservist constable appeared in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Monday.
He was arrested by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate over the weekend.
IPID spokesperson Moses Dlamini said the destitute man was looking for shelter at Bellville police station, when the reservist allegedly forced him into a room.
"He was taken to a room. The reservist uncuffed him, took off his clothes and raped him."
He said the reservist will be back in court on 21 June.
"The investigation is still ongoing."
