AU Commission Chairperson Jean Ping says they need UN help on the Mali matter.
PARIS - The African Union has asked the U.N. Security Council for a resolution that would allow military intervention in Mali, where rising Islamist militancy has turned into an international security threat, the AU's commission chairman Jean Ping said.
"ECOWAS (Economic Community Of West African States) ... has asked us to go to the U.N. Security Council, which we have done," Ping told France 24.
