ANCYL silent on NEC decision
The ANC Youth League has not said anything about the NEC’s decision to expel Julius Malema.
JOHANNESBURG - The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) has not reacted to the NEC's decision not to review Julius Malema's expulsion.
On Tuesday, ANC Secretary General Gwede Mantashe announced that the Malema chapter was closed after the NEC decided not to review his expulsion.
He said the controversial leader could not appeal at the ANC's national elective conference in December.
Earlier in 2012, the ANC's National Disciplinary Committee of Appeals (NDCA) upheld an earlier ruling that expelled Malema for sowing division in the party.
He was also found guilty of bringing the ANC into disrepute.
Mantashe said Monday's NEC meeting was Malema's last chance.
"There is no provision in the [ANC] constitution for any review at a conference."
He said the ANC expects all party organs to respect the decision.
"The special NEC [meeting] resolved that national officials and the National Working Committee must meet with the ANCYL leadership."
The Young Lions have not reacted to the decision.
