JOHANNESBURG - The ANC Youth League (ANCYL) at the weekend said it hoped the ruling party will find a political solution to the impasse over its leader Julius Malema's expulsion.

The ruling party will hold a special National Executive Committee meeting on Monday to discuss among other things, preparations for its national policy conference at the end of June.

But the ANCYL believes the meeting will be dominated by the expulsions and suspensions of its leader, secretary general Sindiso Magaqa and spokesperson Floyd Shivambu.

The meeting may be a last ditch attempt for Malema to save his political career.

League spokesperson Magdalene Moonsamy said "We anticipate that for the interest of unity and cohesion that these issues will be looked at and political solutions will be found."

She said the league has called for alternative solutions to the expulsions and suspensions since they were executed.

Meanwhile, the ANC would not confirm if Malema's fate will be discussed and said the agenda of the meeting was private.
