A milestone for Gauteng
The final Gautrain phase between Rosebank and Park Station was officially opened to the public on Thursday.
JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng Transport MEC Ismail Vadi said on Thursday technical planning to extend the Gautrain project was already underway.
The final phase between Rosebank and Park Station was officially opened to the public on Thursday.
Several delays in opening the final route were due to a dispute on the amount of water that was being pumped out of the underground tunnel.
It was agreed this week that it was safe for the train to operate.
Vadi said the next step would be extending the project to other areas in the province.
An independent tribunal will, however, hear a dispute between the Bombela Concession Company and the Gauteng Provincial Government over the water seepage issues in September.
"It is still subject of a disagreement between ourselves and provincial government," Bombela's Errol Braithwaite told Eyewitness News on Thursday.
"It will be heard by an independent tribunal, but the amount of water coming into the tunnel does not impact on operations or train safety."
