SAPS suspends Solly Lazarus
EWN understands that Crime Intelligence financial boss Solly Lazarus is no longer at work
JOHANNESBURG - Eyewitness News understands that Crime Intelligence financial head Solly Lazarus was officially suspended by the South African Police Service on Tuesday.
In May, he received his notice of intention to suspend along with former Crime Intelligence boss Richard Mdluli.
Lazarus was implicated in fraud and corruption relating to the personal use of the unit's secret slush fund.
According to his suspension letter, new information has come to light about his apparent misuse of the Crime Intelligence fund.
Lazarus was also implicated in an explosive report authored by investigating officer Kobus Roelofse.
The document claims Lazarus wanted to pay journalists to write stories to cast suspicion on those perceived to be a threat to him and Mdluli.
It was also claimed Lazarus attempted to influence senior ANC MP Cecil Burgess into believing that an investigation against him would compromise state security.
