Alleged serial rapist to plead
A suspected rapist faces 97 charges ranging from rape to attempted murder.
JOHANNESBURG - Rights organisation Women and Men Against Child Abuse called for a speedy conviction in the case against the alleged Thokoza serial rapist on Thursday.
The suspect, who cannot be named until he pleads, faces 97 charges ranging from rape to attempted murder.
He made a brief appearance in the Alberton Magistrate's Court.
The organisations Vincentia Dlamini Ngobese said the sooner the trial started, the better it would be for the victims.
"We hope when it gets to the high court it will be a fast process so the victims can move on with their lives.
"The victims have to participate in an identity parade and their lives will be on hold until then."
The man preyed on children between the ages of nine and 13 in and around Thokoza and Vosloorus for around six years.
He was subsequently arrested, after one of his victims followed him home and then alerted police.
