JOHANNESBURG - Management at the Post Office on Thursday said it will now concentrate on dealing with the mail delivery backlog following an end to a strike which lasted four months.

This week casual employees went back to work after demanding to be hired on a permanent basis.

Details of the agreement between the casual workers and management have not been made available, but it is understood the initial offer tabled a few months ago was accepted.

The Post Office's Janras Kotsi said they may even work over the weekend to deal with the backlog.

"Between now and Friday we will be reviewing the number of hours at our disposal.

"We are also planning to work over weekends and work over time to deal with it."

The delivery of mail in Gauteng was severely affected by the strike.

Kotsi said negotiators accepted a proposed interim solution on Tuesday night.
