The EC conjoined twins were admitted to the Red Cross Children's Hospital for inspection.
CAPE TOWN - A pair of conjoined twins were admitted to the intensive care unit at the Red Cross Children's Hospital, the Western Cape Health Department confirmed on Thursday.
The twins were born in Libode, in the former Transkei on Wednesday.
Authorities in that the Eastern Cape said it seems the babies share a heart and liver.
Together, they weigh four kilograms.
Western Cape health spokesperson Faiza Steyn said the babies have to be examined closely.
"They may not be operated on or separated for months. They may be sent home in the interim to develop some more, if that is deemed the safest action."
