CAPE TOWN - Democratic Alliance (DA) MP Lennit Max on Monday said he was interested in taking part in the party's Western Cape leadership race.

Last week, incumbent leader Theuns Botha announced he would not stand for re-election in October.

Cultural Affairs MEC Ivan Meyer has already thrown his hat into the ring.

Max said he was still thinking about it.

"I'm interested in contesting for the provincial leadership. However, I'm also busy with postgraduate studies. I will decide during the nomination period which one to abandon."

The DA's elective conference will be held in October.
