CAPE TOWN - The Forensic Investigative Unit is probing more than 20 cases of alleged financial misconduct in the Western Cape Social Development Department.

Western Cape Social Development MEC Albert Fritz recently dismissed four employees for allegedly using a fake NGO to embezzle state money.

The action came after a tip-off from a bank in July last year.

The officials allegedly transferred more than R 80,000 into an account for the fake NGO.

Fritz is concerned they have not heard from police yet.

"I will make inquiries with regard to what happened to these criminal charges that we laid against them. I'm amazed one year down the line; no one was arrested by police."

He said the FIU is looking into several cases in his department.

"We have more than 28 cases with that unit at the moment. It can be even more. I must say that a lot of the cases are very old cases."
