CAPE TOWN - The Western Cape Department of Social Development dismissed four officials for allegedly using a fake non-profit organisation to embezzle State funds.

Social development MEC Albert Fritz said a bank alerted the department of the crime in July last year.

It is alleged the four officials transferred more than R80, 000 into a mock account for the fake organisation.

“They were on suspension with full pay, which I completely disagreed with!”

An internal disciplinary process into the matter was finalised this week, and the accused were dismissed with immediate effect, the MEC said.

On Monday, Fritz will inquire on the developments of the criminal charges his department laid against the officials, he said.
